In my next episode of the ‘today IPL match prediction’ series, I take a close look at the upcoming match between LSG and DC. This will be a hard-fought match between two of the strongest teams. While LSG got to the playoffs in IPL 2022, DC finished 5th.
The sports enthusiast in me is intrigued by the possibilities in this game. This one is truly hard to predict. However, I believe that the toss and home advantage will have a strong bearing on the outcome of this match.
LSG had a great outing in their inaugural IPL season, last year. In the bargain, they got to the playoffs and finished fourth overall. KL Rahul’s wards would want to go a step or two further in IPL 2023.
With the addition of Pooran to their middle order, LSG have plugged a gap in their middle order. The team has good balance with a surfeit of match winning players in every department. I predict that LSG will beat DC in the upcoming match.

In this LSG vs DC prediction review, I consider the players likely to play in the respective teams. I also analyse which players are likely to play star roles in the upcoming game between LSG and DC. I have made several IPL predictions. I begin by predicting which team will win the toss. I also make individual predictions. For instance, I name who I think will prove to be the most successful batter in the match. I also name my candidate to emerge the most successful bowler. I have based my observations on cricket expertise gained from years of observing the game. LSG Team Review
Skipper KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock will open the innings. They will be followed in the order by Hooda, Pooran and Badoni. Stoinis will play the finishing role at number six. He will be followed by Krunal Pandya, another allrounder. Bishnoi, Mohsin Khan, Wood and Unadkat will complete the best eleven that LSG can field.
The batting has plenty of firepower, if the top order batters play to potential. Importantly, they have competent batters at numbers six and seven. While Wood is a tearaway fast bowler, the other seamers are not as awe-inspiring. However, LSG have some variety in the spin department, with an offie and a left-armer. Importantly, they have an additional seamer in Stoinis. Overall, this is a balanced squad with great potential.

DC Team Review
Warner and Shaw are expected to open the DC innings. Sarfaraz Khan will fill the number three spot. In the absence of Pant, Lalit Yadav and Yash Dhull would slot in at numbers four and five. Marsh at number six or Axar Patel at seven could play the finisher’s role. A rather longish tail will include Kuldeep Yadav, Ngidi, Chetan Sakariya, and Nortje.
Though Pant’s possible absence is a negative factor, this side has enough batting firepower to tide them over. The reputations of Warner and Shaw precede the players. Sarfaraz has been in sensational batting form in the Ranji Trophy. Lalit Yadav and Yash Dhull are no rabbits with the bat. Marsh can hold his own against any bowler. Axar Patel has played the finisher’s role for India in T20Is.
DC have variety in their attack. Pacemen Ngidi and Nortje are renowned for their accomplishments with the South Africa national squad. Likewise, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel have performed well for India. Sakariya who emerged a few years ago has continued to impress in the IPL.

LSG vs DC Head-to-head
LSG and DC have met in only one match in the IPL. LSG won the IPL 2022 match at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Thus, LSG enjoy a 1-0 h2h advantage over DC.
LSG vs DC Last Meeting
LSG won the toss and elected to field. Shaw got DC off to a flyer. His was the first wicket to fall in the 8th over. He made 61 from 34 balls, the lion’s share of the 67-run opening stand. However, his dismissal opened the floodgates and two more quick wickets reduced DC to 74/3 in the 11th over.
Skipper Pant and Sarfaraz Khan got into the rescue act but they did not set the stands on fire. The scoring rate dwindled and DC finished with a disappointing 149/3. Pant made 39 from 36 balls to top score for DC. LSG’s best bowler on the night, Bishnoi took 2/22.
LSG could not have asked for a better start to their chase. Rahul and de Kock scored 73 runs together before Rahul got out in the 10th over. De Kock continued the good work even as wickets fell regularly at the other end.
To cut a long story short, the opener made 80 from 52 balls. When he got out, LSG needed less than 30 runs with four overs to go. Krunal Pandya and Ayush Badoni got together to ensure that LSG got across the line without further ado. Kuldeep Yadav was Delhi’s most successful bowler, returning figures of 2/31.
Players to look out for
Openers Shaw and Rahul are match winners for their respective teams. Young batter Badoni is another player who could exert a strong influence on the match outcome. Allrounder Stoinis will play the crucial finishing role for LSG. Krunal Pandya’s all-round skills could prove crucial to LSG’s fortunes.
Apart from Shaw, the in-form Sarfaraz gives DC a boost at the top of the batting order. Axar Patel and Marsh have all-round skills and can fill the finisher’s role in the order. Apart from the recognised pace duo of Nortje and Ngidi, the bowling line-up includes Sakariya and Kuldeep Yadav. Both these bowlers have previous IPL successes to boast of.
Toss prediction

I predict that LSG skipper KL Rahul will score the most runs in the game versus DC. Rahul has been one of the most prolific IPL run getters in recent years.

Unadkat who led Saurashtra to their second Ranji Trophy title in three years will be the best bowler on display.
Highest sixes hitter
I expect KL Rahul to register the most six hits in the match versus DC. Rahul has established a reputation for hitting big sixes.
Most economical bowler
In my view, LSG spinner Bishnoi will concede the fewest runs in the upcoming game with DC.
Most catches
LSG keeper de Kock will take the most catches in the upcoming match between LSG and DC.
