I continue my ‘today IPL match prediction’ series with a preview of the upcoming IPL game between Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
As a sports enthusiast I am keen to watch this game between two strong teams. This match between well-matched franchises should attract any sports enthusiast like me. The sides had differing fortunes in IPL 2022. While LSG finished in 4th place, SRH ended up in 8th place ahead of CSK and MI.
I predict that LSG will prevail in the upcoming game versus SRH, thanks largely to home advantage.

LSG vs SRH: Prediction & Tips
In my LSG vs SRH match prediction preview, I name the players likely to feature in the playing elevens. I also name the players likely to excel in the upcoming game. I make many other predictions. I forecast the names of players likely to outshine all others with bat and ball. My focus is on the most runs scored, the most sixes hit, the most wickets taken, the least runs conceded. In making these forecasts I have relied on my cricket expertise honed from years of watching the game. LSG Team Review
LSG broke the bank at the IPL auction to buy Pooran. They explained that Pooran was the right man to fill a vacuum in their middle order. Pooran would be keen to justify the high price paid for him. Among the others, De Kock and Rahul will open as usual. Hooda and Badoni will also share space with Pooran in the middle order. Apart from Hooda, Stoinis and Krunal Pandya can play finishing roles.
The six bowling options include pace and spin. Wood’s ability to bowl in excess of 150 kmph could give LSG an edge against the best batting sides. He could pair successfully with Unadkat who has been in great form in domestic cricket. Stoinis and Mohsin khan are two more seamers in the LSG bowling line up. Krunal Pandya and Bishnoi are two contrasting spin options to lend more variety.

SRH Team Review
SRH paid a high price for Mayank Agarwal at the IPL auction. Initially, there was speculation that they wanted Agarwal to lead the team. In fact, they only want him to open with Abhishek Sharma. The SRH management has since named Markram as the skipper. Apart from Markram, Tripathi, Brook, and Philips are reliable names in the middle order. All eyes will be on Harry Brooks who also cost SRH a high price. Washington Sundar with his proven batting ability can play as a finisher. Markande, Adil Rashid, Malik and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are the other four in the eleven.
There is enough talent in batting and bowling alike. Markram can fill in as the sixth bowler if required. The rest of the bowlers boast experience and variety that could prove key to SRH’s fortunes this season.

LSG and SRH have played only one IPL game against each other. LSG won that solitary game in their inaugural IPL season in 2022. Thus, LSG enjoy a 1-0 h2h advantage over SRH.
LSG vs SRH Last Meeting
LSG and SRH last played each other on 4 April 2022 at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium. SRH won the toss and chose to field first.
SG got off to a bad start losing three wickets for only 27 runs within the powerplay. Deepak Hooda joined KL Rahul and the pair added 87 runs for the 4th wicket. Rahul added 30 more runs for the next wicket in Badoni’s company. Despite a flurry of wickets, LSG managed to score 25 runs in the last two overs. They accomplished a final score of 169/7 in their allotted overs. Skipper Rahul top scored with 68 made from only 50 balls. Hooda made 51 from 33 balls. For SRH, Sundar, Shepherd and Natarajan took two wickets each.
In their chase, SRH lost early wickets within the Powerplay to be reduced to 38 for 2. Then came a 44-run stand of the 3rd wicket between Tripathi and Markram, in which Markram scored just 12 runs before being dismissed. After the loss of Tripathis’ wicket in the 14th over, the scorecard read 4/95. A 48-run stand between Pooran and Sundar left SRH needing 27 runs in 14 balls. However, the LSG bowlers put the brakes on the scoring rate. SRH fell short at 157/9. Tripathi (44 runs from 30 balls) top scored for SRH. Avesh Khan (4/24) was LSG’s best bowler on the day.
Players to look out for
Apart from skipper KL Rahul, LSG have several match winners. Young batsman Badoni made a huge impact in IPL 2022. Krunal Pandya and Stoinis combine experience and all-round skills. Unadkat and Bishnoi have proven their ability in the IPL.
The presence of Agarwal in the SRH squad should compensate for the absence of Williamson and Warner. Harry Brook is the next batting superstar in the making if experts are to be believed. SRH will welcome Washington back from injury. The allrounder adds tremendous value with ball and bat alike. Adil Rashid will give the SRH bowling line up another winning facet.
Toss prediction
SRH won the toss in their last and only game with LSG in IPL 2022. In my best toss prediction, I consider the effect of the law of averages. I believe that LSG will win the toss in the upcoming IPL match.
Highest scorer
LSG skipper KL Rahul has been in the news for his poor form in test cricket. I believe Rahul will get back to his best in IPL 2023. Not only that, he will be the most successful player with the bat in the game between LSG and SRH.
Highest wicket taker
LSG off-spinner Bishnoi is likely to snare the most batting victims. Bishnoi had a reasonably good season last year and is ready to go up a level.
Highest sixes hitter
LSG finisher Stoinis will end up hitting the most sixes in the IPL match between LSG and SRH. Stoinis has proved his six-hitting ability in past seasons of the IPL.
Most economical bowler
Washington Sundar is likely to prove the most economical bowler of all in the match versus LSG. The SRH all rounder has the ability to stem the flow of runs even in the powerplay overs.
Most catches
I predict that the most catches will be taken by LSG wicket keeper Rahul will take the most catches in the upcoming game versus SRH. The seam bowling of Unadkat, Wood and Avesh Khan will impact the outcome of the match.
