IPL 2023: MI vs CSK Match Prediction

Reviewed on

The primary focus of this ‘today IPL match prediction’ preview is IPL 2023 match between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. The match will take place on 8 April at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. I expect Mumbai Indians to beat CSK in this match thanks to their home advantage.

That said, the win will not be easy to achieve. Chennai Super Kings have a brilliant core of players with vast experience. Dhoni fans expect the CSK skipper to make IPL 2023 – his last IPL appearance – memorable. The sports enthusiast in me cannot bear to miss this match between the two most successful IPL teams.

After both teams suffered arguably their worst IPL season in 2022. While MI finished at the bottom of the barrel, CSK finished one rung above them in ninth place. Both teams would want to make a statement in this game and wrest the psychological advantage.

MI vs CSK: Prediction & Tips

This Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings prediction preview contains a host of predictions. I forecast the playing elevens of the two sides. I focus on the players I think will play brilliantly in this game. I then focus my ‘today match prediction astrology’ to presenting my best IPL toss prediction. I also identify the batter likely to score more runs than any other. I also name the bowler likely to grab more wickets than any other. These IPL predictions 2023 will assist punters in placing wagers at the best IPL betting sites.

MI Team Review

Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma will begin the batting proceedings for MI. They are likely to be followed in order by Suryakumar Yadav, Donald Brevis, Tim David, Cameron Green, and Tilak Varma. Archer, Bumrah, Hrithik Shokeen and Kumar Kartikeya should complete the eleven, assuming that these players are match fit.

The top order batting is exceptional. If MI have an Achilles’ heel, it is in the bowling. They depend a lot on Archer and Bumrah who have not played a lot of cricket in recent months. Cameron Green who commanded a big price at the IPL auction would want to justify his pay cheque.

Unfortunately for MI, there is a cloud over Bumrah’s participation in IPL 2023. Reports suggest that the fast bowler has not recovered sufficiently from injury.

Below is their latest Performance:

CSK Team Review

Stokes attracted a big bid from CSK at the auction. He could pair Ruturaj Gaikwad at the top of the order. The likes of Rayudu, Jadeja and Moeen Ali in middle order will give CSK lots of confidence. Skipper Dhoni could promote himself up the order. CSK have a surfeit of all-rounders, including Pretorius. The other four in the eleven are Theekshana, Dube, Chahar and Choudhary. However, CSK’s surplus of all-rounders is set off by the absence of an express fast bowler.

Below is their latest Performance:

MI vs CSK Head-to-head

The sides have met 34 times in past IPL games. While MI have won on 20 occasions, CSK have won on the remaining 14.

MI vs CSK Last Meeting

CSK and MI last played in the IPL on 12 May 2022 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. MI won the toss and put CSK in. CSK got off to the worst possible start, losing

5 wickets within the powerplay overs. From a position of 5/29 in 5.4 overs, CSK got no respite. They lost regular wickets to be bowled out for 97 runs in 16 overs.

The only resistance came from CSK skipper MS Dhoni who made an unbeaten 36 from 33 balls. Rayudu, Dube and Bravo got into double figures but failed to capitalise on the good starts.

Among the MI bowlers, Daniel Sams (3/16) Riley Meredith (2/27) and Kumar Kartikeya (2/22) caused the most damage.

Defending a low total, CSK’s opening bowler began brilliantly. They pegged back the strong MI batting line up by grabbing 4 wickets for only 33 runs within the powerplay. That brought Hrithik Shokeen to the wicket and he added 48 runs in the company of Tilak Varma.

After Shokeen was dismissed in the 13th over, Tim David joined Varma and the pair took their side past the line without further loss of wickets.

Tilak Varma top scored for MI with an unbeaten 34 from 32 balls. David played a brilliant cameo, making 16 runs from only 7 balls. Mukesh Chaudhary was CSK’s best bowler on display. He returned figures of 3/23.

Players to look out for

Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan can change the outcome of a gem with their explosive batting. Green would want to make an early impact in his inaugural IPL season. While Archer lacks recent match experience, he is a classy operator who will be keen to make a mark.

There is no denying that CSK could rue the absence of a tearaway pace bowler. Dhoni’s wards would look up to the trio of Jadeja, Stokes and Moeen Ali to make up for this lack. The key player could be Gaikwad whose form in the Indian domestic season has been sensational.

Toss prediction

In my IPL toss prediction for the upcoming game between MI and CSK, I favour CSK to win the toss. In their last game in IPL 2022, the luck of the toss favoured MI. I expect the law of averages to compensate in CSK’s favour.

Highest scorer

I expect CSK batter Ruturaj Gaikwad to score the most runs in this upcoming IPL encounter.

Highest wicket taker

MI bowler Archer is likely to discover his wicket-taking form in the match and end up with the most scalps.

Highest sixes hitter

Suryakumar Yadav has established a reputation for hitting sixes off good balls. I expect him to top the sixes tally in the match.

Most economical bowler

Santner is likely to concede the fewest runs.

Most catches

Ishan Kishan behind the Mumbai stumps will grab the most catches in this match.
