After UAE dismissed opener Max O’Dowd in the 2nd over, with the score on 5, Ben Cooper and Colin Ackerman steadied the ship. When Ackerman got out in the 10th over, the Netherlands needed only 25 more runs to win.
They knocked them off without further loss of wickets. Cooper remained unbeaten on 41 made from 53 balls. Meanwhile, Ryan ten Doeschate was 16 not out, in his side’s 8-wicket win. For UAE, Rohan Mustafa and Zahoor Khan took a wicket each.
The win was all the more impressive, coming as it did in a crunch game. The victory helped the Netherlands qualify for the T20 World Cup, allowing them to play against full member ICC teams.
